INT. LOBBY, FRONT DESK

Casino hums. Riley steps up to a busy front desk.

     DESK CLERK

Yes, Sir. How may I help you?

     RILEY

Yeah, I’ve been waiting, for some time now. I thought I would see. If

you have any messages? Room 418.

     DESK CLERK

Not a problem, Sir. Let me check. (keyboard clicks) Hmm. Sometimes they store them in these cubbies. Room 418. No, sorry Sir. Are you expecting something?

      RILEY

No, I’m looking for someone. I can just ahh..yeah, I’ll take a seat and... Thanks.

His PHONE CHIMES in his pocket. He grabs it in a hurry.

     RILEY

I got a text.

     DESK CLERK

Hope it’s what you’re waiting for.

     RILEY

Come up to the room. (laughs to himself) It’s from my wife.

     DESK CLERK

Sounds like a good message.

     RILEY

Yeah it does, doesn’t it. Sorry, I was getting a little ahead of myself...I’m feeling a little goofy. I know you’re busy. I don’t mean to be a bother.

     DESK CLERK

Not at all, Sir. We’re here to help. 24/7. Have a nice night.

INT. HALLWAY

Elevator dings. Doors slide open. Riley on the move. Audible SPANISH MUSIC in the distance (low on the sound mix)

     RILEY

(to himself) Play it cool. She’s good, you’re good. Everybody’s good. Vacation. (exhales. Knocks.) It’s me.

Slides his card. Slides it again. Nothing. He knocks again.

     RILEY

Brynn. Hey. My card won’t. Come on. Hello?

He tries the card again. Frustrated, he jostles the handle.

A STRONG KNOCK a few doors down, startles him.

     MAID

Housekeeping.

A seasoned Immigrant MAID swipes. Card reader BEEPS; unlocks.

     MAID

(opens door) Housekeeping. Turn down.

     RILEY

Excuse me. My room key won’t work. Could you give me a hand?

     MAID

Your key? (cautious) No have key.

     RILEY

Please. Hold on. Watch. Room key. It doesn’t work. No work. Broken.

     MAID

(sighs) Okay. Si’. I can help.

     RILEY

You’re a lifesaver. Thank you.

She slides her card. Reader BEEPS and clicks unlocked.

INT. ROOM 418

     RILEY

Hey you. I can’t see anything in here. Why’d you close the curtains?

He throws them open. Vegas nightlife out the window.

     RILEY

You in the bathroom again? I hear the fan. Where’s all our stuff?

He opens the bathroom door.

     RILEY

Empty. Where in the hell are you? Spotless. Oh shit. I’m in the wrong...(laughs) Has to be. I’m in the wrong room.

He jerks open the room door.

     RILEY

It’s right there. Four, one, eight. Am I losing my mind? Shit. I gotta

call somebody.

Confusion walking back into the room.

     RILEY

There’s the night-stand. There’s the phone. Hey wait, what’s this?

He goes for the room phone. Handset to his ear. Dials.

     RILEY

This is Brynn’s ring. Her wedding ring. What’s it doing on the bed?

     DESK CLERK

(filtered) Front Desk. How may I help you?

     RILEY

(into phone) Yeah, I’m in my room. My stuff is gone. My wife is gone. But her wedding ring is here. I don’t..I don’t know what to do.

     DESK CLERK

(filtered) I’m so sorry to hear this. Please come down to the lobby and we’ll get you all sorted out.

Riley HANGS UP the phone.

INT. LOBBY, FRONT DESK

Casino, electric and alive.

     DESK CLERK

Yes, Ms. Lang. We apologize about the wait. We have those suites all set for your family. Here are your room keys. And you asked about our concierge, it’s located right--

     RILEY

(out of breath) Excuse me. I’m the one who called. I need to see somebody.

     DESK CLERK

Yes. I’ll be with you in one second. Ms. Lang, the concierge is to the right of the casino floor--

     RILEY

Please. Someone. Now.

His tone catches their attention. SENIOR REP steps up.

      SENIOR REP

What seems to be the problem, Sir?

     RILEY

Come here. Move down. Here. Okay. You have to listen to me.

     SENIOR REP

Of course.

     RILEY

I checked in. We checked in. A short time ago.

     SENIOR REP

(keyboard clicks) Your room number.

     RILEY

418. With my wife. And now I can’t...She seems to be, missing. Our things are missing. I just don’t understand? Any of this.

     SENIOR REP

Your wife. Does she know Las Vegas?

     RILEY

No, this is her first time here. But I’m certain she would have told me, if she was leaving.

     SENIOR REP

Does she have any friends, family in the area?

     RILEY

No, no she doesn’t. Listen to me. My wife is gone. Do you hear me She’s gone. Not here. My room is empty. My stuff. Her stuff. Everything is gone.

     SENIOR REP

Sir. Calm down.

     RILEY

Please. Can you help me. Is there something you can do?

     SENIOR REP

Of course. I’ll bring in our Head of Security. If you would just have a seat, right over there.

     RILEY

Well. That’s something. Thank you.

He walks away in a huff.

     DESK CLERK

Sorry you had to deal. What a train wreck. You believe this guy?

     SENIOR REP

(picks up a phone) I do. I’m calling it in.

INT. CASINO FLOOR

Riley grabs a seat off the floor as casino rocks around him.

     RILEY

(to himself, frantic) Where are you? Did you leave? No. That’s not it. But where have you gone? Should I call the police? Should I go back to the room and wait? Christ, I can’t even hear myself think in this crazy place.

     STEVEN

Hey, it’s my blackjack buddy. I thought that was you.

     RILEY

Steven. Oh, thank God.

     STEVEN

Riley the Tourist. You’re dry as a bone. That’s no good. Darlin’. (snap, snap) A double on the double, por favor.

     RILEY

Am I glad to see you. You have no idea what I’m going--

     STEVEN

--Hey, I meant to ask you. Why did you play that 17? I mean, that took some serious stones.

     RILEY

You know this town. The front desk, they’re jerking me around. And I’m about to lose it.

     STEVEN

--Buddy. Calm down. What is it?

     RILEY

I’m waiting to talk to Hotel Security. Police.

     STEVEN

Police? Why would you need the Police?

     RILEY

My wife. Brynn. She’s, I mean. I can’t find her. She’s not here. She’s just, gone. All our stuff is gone. Our room is empty. And--

     STEVEN

(stops him) Hey, hey, hey. No. You got it all wrong. Your wife. She’s fine. You have nothing to worry about.

     RILEY

What did you just say about my wife? Is this some kind of a joke? You think that’s funny?

     STEVEN

Are you going to jump me? You’ll spill my drink all over.

Riley starts to move.

     STEVEN

Ohh no. Don’t do that. You get up. Even an inch out of that chair. And I won’t tell you a thing.

     RILEY

Who the fuck are you? What are you? I’m calling the Police.

     STEVEN

Yeah, that makes sense. But you do that, and I guarantee. You’ll never see her again.

     RILEY

Where is she?

     STEVEN

And why is this happening? Those are your top-two. Right? Tell you what. I’ll flip you for ‘em. (searches his coat) Here, I’ve got a silver dollar on me. I carry it for good luck. Heads. Where? Tails. Why? Cool?

     RILEY

What have you done with her?

Steven flips the coin. And catches it.

     STEVEN

And it’s. Tails. Okay. Why it is. But you won’t believe me.

     RILEY

You better start making sense.

     STEVEN

We play a little game here. It’s an annual thing. And each year, one of the six sponsors, they get the wild card slot. Supposed to liven things up. Some times it does.  Sometimes it doesn’t. Sometimes, it’s a right mess. This year, I’m honored to say. That choice is mine. And I’ve chosen you.

     RILEY

Where is my wife?

     STEVEN

Sorry, that’s against the rules. On the flip. You got the Why, not the Where.

Riley springs forward and grabs him.

     STEVEN

(calm) Take your hands off me, Riley.

A hand clamps on Riley’s shoulder. SECURITY CHIEF (50).

     SECURITY CHIEF

Mr. Banks. Let’s not do that. Stay in your seats. See the badge. Casino Security.

     STEVEN

Evening, Officer.

     RILEY

You have to--this guy knows something about my wife.

     STEVEN

I have no idea what he’s talking about.

     RILEY

Oh, you are so full of shit--

     SECURITY CHIEF

The two of you. Come with me. Now.

     STEVEN

Yes, Sir. I’m always happy to help.

     SECURITY CHIEF

Mr. Banks.

     RILEY

You’re the Police. Is that right?

     SECURITY CHIEF

Better than that. This way. Please.

They head into the evening casino chaos.

INT. SECURITY OFFICE

No ambient noise. Nothing, other than their voices.

     SECURITY CHIEF

I’m only gonna say this once. Let’s keep our hands to ourselves. Now. What is this?

     STEVEN

A Passport. You wanted ID. That’s what I got. Gets me into other countries. Should be good enough for your little Principal’s office back here.

     SECURITY CHIEF

And your Virginia Driver’s license. This address. Is it home?

     RILEY

It is now. Yes, Sir. That’s right.

     SECURITY CHIEF

Your wife. Does she have a history of, wandering off. Is she taking any kind of meds? Prescriptions.

     RILEY

No, and I don’t understand why you’re asking me questions? I’m telling you. This man here. He knows where she is.

     STEVEN

Hey. I’m being very straight with you. What else can I say? We played blackjack--

     SECURITY CHIEF

When was this?

     STEVEN

Just this side of midnight. It was a good game, we had a few drinks. He left the table. I asked him to stay and play, but he said he had to make things right with his wife. As a matter of fact, he told me, that the last time he’d seen her, she locked herself in the bathroom and refused to talk to him. Isn’t that right, Riley.

     RILEY

(incredulous) What are you doing?

     STEVEN

Just trying to be helpful.

     SECURITY CHIEF

When was the last time you saw your wife?

     RILEY

The room. Our room.

     SECURITY CHIEF

And she locked herself in the bathroom. Then what happened?

     RILEY

I went down to the casino.

     SECURITY CHIEF

On your own. To play blackjack.

     RILEY

Is there a crime against that here?

      SECURITY CHIEF

I want a clear picture. When you last saw her. She wouldn’t speak to you. Was she angry?

     RILEY

No. She was, about to take a shower. We had a short...discussion.

     SECURITY CHIEF

A discussion. Like a fight?

     RILEY

No. It was nothing like that. It was more like, a talk.

     SECURITY CHIEF

Was she upset? Enough to leave. Maybe all the way back to Virginia?

     STEVEN

It’s what I would do.

     RILEY

Shut up. Do I know where she is? No. But he does.

     SECURITY CHIEF

What do you have to say about this?

     STEVEN

I’m over at the horseshoe lounge, minding my own business. I see him. Little wave. He charges over, all tough guy, mouthing this and that, not making a bit of sense--

     RILEY

He’s lying. I’m telling you--

     STEVEN

--It’s not my fault every time a husband loses track of his wife in Las Vegas.

     RILEY

You said you knew where she was and you were playing some kind of game.

     STEVEN

Well, it’s true. I’ve still got game with the ladies. I’m good. But I’m not that good.

     SECURITY CHIEF

Okay. We’re about done here.

     RILEY

What? Wait a minute. That’s it?

     SECURITY CHIEF

I don’t see any evidence of suspicious activity.

     RILEY

But I found her ring. Look. Here it is. Right here. It was the only thing left in the room.

     STEVEN

Sounds like a mystery to me.

     SECURITY CHIEF

You arrive at the hotel. Get into an argument with your wife. Leave her. And come back to find your bags missing and a wedding ring left behind?

Riley drops down into his seat. He can’t believe this.

     SECURITY CHIEF

We can contact the airlines. See if she’s listed on any passenger manifest.

     RILEY

Okay. Let’s do that.

     STEVEN

Well. If there is nothing else. I’d like to get on with my evening.

     RILEY

What do you mean, nothing else.

     SECURITY CHIEF

Of course. We appreciate your cooperation.

     RILEY

You’re letting him go?

     SECURITY CHIEF

I have all his contacts. If I need to get in touch with him, I can.

     STEVEN

Hey, I’m a phone call away. And Buddy, no hard feelings. I am sorry about your wife. That’s gotta hit ya’. Right in the gut.

     SECURITY CHIEF

Mr. Sunner. This way. I’ll take you back to the floor.

     STEVEN

Thank you, Derek.

     RILEY

Derek?

     SECURITY CHIEF

Mr. Banks. Here’s your license. Wait here. We’ll see what more we can do for ya’.

Riley mumbles back. Security Chief walks Steven out. Heavy metal door closes behind them. AND LOCKS from the outside.

     RILEY

(to himself) Those two know each other. I should have know. Yeah. Forget this.

Riley tries to open the door. It’s locked.

    RILEY

What the hell? What the hell. You locked me in here?

Riley POUNDS on the closed door.

     RILEY

Open this door. Open this door. Right now.

A pause. And we hear the door being unlocked. WINSTONE KELLER opens the door.

     KELLER

Mr. Banks. Hello, Sir. I understand you’re upset. Would you please calm down. Why don’t you have a seat.

     RILEY

Stay the fuck away from me. I’m leaving.

     KELLER

You won’t make it out of the hotel alive. They’ll kill you in the driveway. Sir. It will be the last breath you ever take.

     RILEY

Who are you?

     KELLER

Winstone Keller. I’m your handler. You’re my wild card.

    RILEY

I’m out of here.

     KELLER

I’m sorry. I can’t allow that.

Keller grabs Riley. A little struggle.

     RILEY

Don’t. Get your hands off me. Let me go. Ow, fuck. You stabbed me?

     KELLER

Shhh, you’ll break the needle. Calm down. There you go. On down. You can relax. This junk is very clean.

Riley falls in a heap. Keller helps him to the floor.

Slowly FADE OUT.

FADE IN on labored breathing.

EXT. ROOFTOP

Ambient noise from high above the city.

GUARDS (2) drag a Man dressed in BLACK across the gravel. The DIN of words in English and French.

Audio track is warped a bit. Slowly getting louder, clearer.

     BLACK

(in French) This is an outrage. Get off of me.

     GUARD 1

Stop fighting.

     BLACK

(in French) Let me go. This instant.

     GUARD 2

You’re just making it worse.

Audio corrected. Vegas nightlife clear. Voices crisp.

     BLACK

(in French) Theo Blanco. Where is Theo? I will not play. Listen to me.

     GUARD 1

Stop squirming, French-ee.

     BLACK

(in French) Monte Carlo. I demand to speak to Monte Carlo. On the phone. Now.

     GUARD 2

(slaps Black) That’s enough. Zip-tie this Hog.

Guards pig-call and laugh. They BEAT the man down.

     STEVEN

Mr. Keller, if this goes as I think it will. I want you to signal your man on the South Tower. On my cue.

     KELLER

Understood, Sir. Your cue. Wait. It looks like he’s waking up.

     RILEY

(drowsy) I can’t stand up. Where am I?

     KELLER

Easy there. Don’t move your head so fast. You’re okay. You’ll be fine.

     STEVEN

Hey, Buddy. What do you think? We’re at the top of the world here. 52 stories, way-up high.

     RILEY

I’m on the roof? Why am I on the fucking roof.

     STEVEN

Go on, take a deep breath. You gotta love that fresh air.

     RILEY

Christ. What are you doing to me?

     STEVEN

Hey. Don’t go all goof-ball on us.

He tries to shake off his haze and starts to stand. He drops.

     STEVEN

You don’t want to embarrass me in front of my friends. See that fancy gang of well-dressed money standing over there. They’re here for you.

     KELLER

How you doin’ there, Riley. Are you feeling any better?

     RILEY

Leave me alone. I said, get back.

He stumbles out of the chair. Feet scrape across gravel.

     KELLER

Careful. You’re gonna be a little groggy on your feet at first.

     RILEY

You stay away from me. You fuckin’ drugged me.

     KELLER

You didn’t give me much choice.

     STEVEN

Leave him be. He’s fine.

Riley stumbles in the gravel, towards humming air conditioning units. Vegas alive far below.

     STEVEN

Looks like you’re coming around, Riley. What do you think, huh? Quite the view. Best on the strip.

     RILEY

I don’t understand any of this. Who are you people?

     STEVEN

We. Are players. And you. You’re my wild-card. My contestant.

     RILEY

I’m your nothing, Mister. You’re not doing anything to me.

     STEVEN

You’re right. You’ll do it all yourself.

     RILEY

Please. Listen. I’m not a part of this. I’m not supposed to be here. Help me. Help. HELP.

Steven BARKS and HOWLS up at the starry sky.

     STEVEN

Bark at the moon. Get all those aggressions out. Help. Please. Nope, Riley. I’m sorry. No one here seems to be listening.

     RILEY

What do you want?

     STEVEN

What I need. And I’m willing to bet I can get it. But, in order to be certain. It’s better to have some leverage. And I do.

     RILEY

Where is my wife? What have you done to her? Tell me. Is she safe?

     STEVEN

She is. You want to see her? Of course. Be my guest. She’s right over there. Just across the way. On the South Tower.

     RILEY

That’s not..Why is she over there? Brynn. Brynn? She’s..? Why is she under that sheet? How do I even know that’s her? That’s not her.

     STEVEN

Kind of looks like a ghost, huh. Let the contestant have a look see.

     KELLER

(calls over) Go ahead. Take it off.

     RILEY

Oh my God. You bastard. That is her. Why is she tied up and gagged?

     STEVEN

Replace the sheet please. Abracadabra. A good magician never reveals all his tricks.

     RILEY

I’m gonna break your fuckin’ neck.

     STEVEN

Riley. You should have seen her. She was a mess. Total panic attack. We had to find a way to calm her down just to get her out here.

     RILEY

And you left her over there? Under a sheet.

     STEVEN

When you’re dealing with a caged animal, you want to use a towel, or a blanket over the head. It helps.

     RILEY

A caged animal. That’s my wife, you asshole.

    STEVEN

Tower to tower. It’s one hundred and eleven feet. And will you look at that. We have a walk-way, from here to there. All set to go.

     RILEY

What have you done to her?

     STEVEN

I don’t know. Walk over and see. This beam here, it’s solid steel. I wouldn’t lie about a thing like that. You’re looking at six inches wide. All the way across.

     RILEY

(shouts) Brynn. I’m gonna get you out of here. I promise.

     STEVEN

I don’t think she can hear you. Maybe you want to get a bit closer.

     RILEY

The hell did you do to her?

     STEVEN

Nothing. I swear. She’s a little immobile is all. Go on. Rescue the maiden fair, and you’re free to go.

     RILEY

This is not real. None of this is.

     STEVEN

You want your wife. Follow that beam. It’ll take you right to her.

     RILEY

You want me to..? Walk across that fucking beam?

     STEVEN

Half a foot wide. Measured myself. Scout’s honor. All you have to do, is lower yourself to that platform. And head across.

     RILEY

You’re insane.

     STEVEN

Go to your wife. And the two of you can be on your way.

     RILEY

Why you got the French guy tied up?

     STEVEN

Him. He’s next.

     RILEY

You are fucking crazy.

     STEVEN

I might be. Hey. Do we have a deal?

     RILEY

A deal? You’re telling me. We can go. Just like that.

     STEVEN

Um-hmm. Just like that. Square go. Sorry I bothered you.

     RILEY

I get over to her. We can leave. That’s what you’re saying. No bullshit. That’s what you’re telling me.

     STEVEN

You have my word. That’s worth something.

     RILEY

It’s not worth shit. You’re lying. I don’t believe you. Why should I?

     STEVEN

I’ll give you a hint. Just breathe. Feel that air. It’s hot and stale. You’ve got no crosswinds to worry about. No corners to navigate. Just a straight line.

    RILEY

And I’m supposed to trust you?

     STEVEN

I don’t know? It’s your choice to make. Think about it.

     RILEY

(Shouts over) Brynn. I’m coming. You hear me.

     KELLER

Hey. No. You don’t want to do that. Don’t look down.

     RILEY

Ohh, God. I’m gonna be sick.

EXT. ROOFTOP, PLAYERS GROUP

Steven steps to SPONSORS (4) with well wishes and handshakes.

CARTER NIX motions. Guards lift Black to his feet.

     STEVEN

Welcome, my friends. So nice to see you all up here.

     NIX

Guards. Bring him to his feet.

     STEVEN

Are we sure here, Mr. Nix? Really only two contestants for this game.

     NIX

The others wish to wait for the main event. This play up here is for you and Monsieur Blanco. And of course, he is, elsewhere.

     BRAZILIAN SPONSOR

He was informed. He seemed rather excited. But we could not pry him away from the Baccarat table.

     STEVEN

Theo and priorities don’t mix. How is his choice of stock this year?

     BRAZILIAN SPONSOR

Spirited. He seems quite aware.

     STEVEN

(snap, snap) Are you still with us?

Black spits back a FRENCH CURSE. Steven laughs.

     STEVEN

At least this one still has has his wits. Remember that rough piece, went berserk and gouged his eyes out. Courtesy of Theo Blanco. And Monte Carlo.

     NIX

I must say, I’m surprised you’re so eager to play your wild card.

     STEVEN

Lucky me. I happen to have a pair.

     ARUBA SPONSOR

Steven. This choice of yours. You understand, it is not a unanimous vote. Mr. Nix, I would like that stated for the record.

     STEVEN

Nobody asked you, Michelle.

     ARUBA SPONSOR

You won’t even consider the amount of clean-up that will be necessary. To make this husband and wife, simply vanish. This risk. That we are all forced to take. For what? Our friends, whimsy.

     MACAU SPONSOR

Mr. Nix. What is his profession?

     NIX

That. I am unaware of.

     MACAU SPONSOR

I see nerve. But does he have the body grace to sustain the distance?

     IRISH SPONSOR

He doesn’t look athletic to me.

     STEVEN

He breaks a bit slow, but he’ll run strong. You gotta have faith.

EXT. ROOFTOP, EDGE

Riley sits on the cement lip of the rooftop. Ambient audio is louder. Evening Vegas traffic, occasional wind gust.

     RILEY

Will you stop touching me. Don’t put your hands on me again.

     KELLER

You want to look straight ahead. Focus. Eyes locked on one point.

     RILEY

Leave me alone.

     KELLER

Center your weight. And simple movements.

     RILEY

Stay the fuck away from me.

     KELLER

I am not trying to hurt you. I’m here to help. I’m your handler.

     RILEY

Help? That’s what you’re giving me? Why?

     KELLER

You win, I win. You make it across. I get a bonus.

     RILEY

You said you wanna help me? Then help me. Get me out of here.

     KELLER

I wish I could. You’re doing great. Your legs will strain. Burn through it. You’ve got to stay up. That’s how you make it across.

Wind gust. Riley lowers himself down to a wooden platform.

Riley’s face flush against concrete.

     KELLER

Ease on down the ladder, to the platform. Stay focused. And remember to breathe.

The noise of the city pulsates. A HEAVY GUST of wind blows.

     RILEY

He said there was no wind.

     KELLER

He lied. There’s always wind. You gotta gauge it. And don’t over balance. You don’t want to do that.

     RILEY

(to himself) I can see you. There you are. Right there. I’m coming. Here I come. (steadies his breathing) First step. Second step. Steady. Steady. Third step.

Nix and the Sponsors gather along the rooftop edge.

     NIX

It appears. We have begun.

     IRISH SPONSOR

I’ve got 500. On the drop.

     BRAZILIAN SPONSOR

500 thousand. I accept that wager.

     STEVEN

Will you continue to whine? Or shall we dance. The game is afoot. It’s not like you to miss out.

     ARUBA SPONSOR

I am not a fan of the Wild Card. However. (beat) One million. He falls.

     STEVEN

Oooo. Those deep pockets sure do look good on you. I can call that.

EXT. METAL BEAM - NIGHT

Increase city ambient noises. Maybe an echo of the street below. Hollow out the sound. Winds hum low and steady.

     RILEY

Fuck. The hell are you doing? Breathe. You can do this. Slow. Slow. One foot in front of the other. I’m coming, Brynn. I’m coming, Baby. Here I am.

He tries for a step. Breath sobs out in a pained whistle.

     RILEY

There she is. Right there. Just go to her. Don’t look down. Don’t do that. Just move. Give me another step. Come on. One more.

Hands sway a bit. He takes in quick hits of breath that slows as he finds his balance. Little WHIMPERS with sharp breaths for each step he takes.

     RILEY

Breathe. Slow. Right down to a tunnel. Focus. Simple. Steps. That’s it. Left foot. Right foot. Left. Right. (scared shiver)

A GUST of wind hits. It snaps at the collar of his shirt.

Steven calls out from the safety of the roof.

     STEVEN

My Man. You got Vegas at your feet.

Riley rocks. Steadies himself as the wind dies down.

     STEVEN

It sure is a long way down there. Plenty of time to hear you scream before you splatter the pavement.

He goes for a step but doesn’t move. Frozen on the beam.

     RILEY

Don’t stop. You have to move. Settle. Balance. Come on, now. Go.

     STEVEN

Freezing up, huh. I wouldn’t do that for long. Time is money, Riley. Get steppin. Bet you can feel those muscles. That pain, growing. If they should give out.

Steven WHISTLES. Riley can hear LAUGHTER behind him.

     RILEY

Sick Fucks. Don’t let em break you. Concentrate. One, two, Here we go.

He inches forward. A smatter of applause over his shoulder.

     RILEY

Slow and steady. 52 stories up. You rush this, you’re dead. (beat) Stop it. Keep your eyes on the beam. Nothing else. Come on. Another step.

     STEVEN

Look at you go, Riley. 600 feet in the air. High-wire, with no net. And all for the love of a redheaded woman. God damn. Now that’s what I call, high maintenance.

     RILEY

Focus. Don’t stop. One more. Come on, Man. Give me a step. You can do this. Go ahead. Please. Move. Please. Move. Please.

The vibrant city all around. Cold wind whistles.
